Victoria Falls Experiences
Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, “the Smoke That Thunders”, Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Zimbabwe and Zambia. Bakololo runs day trips to the Zimbabwe side, so you can see the falls from the ground or from the sky and add other activities to your day. Options from Livingstone on the Zambian side can be included where your itinerary allows.
Victoria Falls Guided Tour
A guided walk along the rainforest trail at Victoria Falls takes you past a series of viewpoints facing the main falls, the Devil’s Cataract and the Victoria Falls Bridge. Your guide explains the history, geology and local legends behind the falls and keeps you on the best path for views and photographs. Water volume varies through the year, with peak flow and heavy spray in the months after the rains. Waterproofs are advisable at that time. Day trips from Kasane include border formalities.
Victoria Falls Scenic Flights
The full scale of Victoria Falls is best appreciated from the air. Helicopter and light-aircraft flights reveal the zigzag gorges carved by the Zambezi, the ribbon of spray rising above the falls and the surrounding bushland and wildlife. Flights are short, usually around 12 to 15 minutes for the falls, and can be combined with ground tours. Weather and operator schedules affect availability, so we recommend booking ahead.
Devil's Pool & Livingstone Island
Cross the Zambezi by boat to Livingstone Island, then wade and swim to Devil’s Pool, a natural pool where a rock ledge lets you lean out over the lip of the falls. Guides stay beside you throughout and take photographs. This is a seasonal experience on the Zambian side, usually possible from about mid-August to mid-January when river levels drop, with a gentler alternative pool used when levels are slightly higher. Breakfast or high tea on the island is often included, and visitors from Zimbabwe or Botswana need the correct Zambian entry arrangements.
